100 per cent or nothing – Part I

I recently handed in an assignment. I got 57 per cent, not the best, but a pass, and that’s all I wanted. While it wasn’t a life or death matter, it got me thinking about how good I am as a person. If you asked me how good I was, I would honestly say I was about 75 per cent good.

I know I make a lot of mistakes, a lot of bad choices that often have me feeling down, but they are mistakes I learn from. No matter how many mistakes I make I will keep trying. I may even become perfect one day.

If I keep trying I will hopefully be good enough for Heaven. All my trial will pay off and I will earn a place in Heaven.

Unfortunately that’s not how life works. If you want to get into Heaven you have to be good 100 per cent of the time. God will not let you into Heaven if you say, “I was mostly good.”

God’s standards are so high that he demands you to be 100 per cent good, throughout your entire life. That includes my life right now, where I’m still learning. I won’t get into Heaven by being 99 per cent good, or 59 per cent good, only 100 per cent good.

Even one mistake will put that three digit figure out of reach. And if we can’t reach that magical figure, than it is all for nothing, because anything less than 100 per cent means we forfeit a place in Heaven. Everyone has made a mistake. And this means you forfeit your place in Heaven.

But there is still a way to reserve a place in Heaven, and the eternal life it offers.

Sacrifice. Not yours, but someone else’s. And that someone else would have to be eligible for Heaven. That person would have to be perfect, he would have to achieve the three digit figure.

There is no person who will ever qualify for Heaven, so God sent his son Jesus Christ. Jesus was 100 per cent good and never made a mistake. He is the sacrifice, he died on the cross and rose again. His death took away every single one of our mistakes, 100 per cent.

Jesus will never return to that cross. He doesn’t need to, he succeeded the first time. If He didn’t his life and death would mean nothing.

Now our mistakes cannot stop us from entering Heaven. Only we can. God has done all he can and left us with a choice. We must choose to accept Jesus and what he did for us on the cross for it to apply to us.

If we do, than 100 per cent of our sin will be covered by Jesus. That includes all we have done, and all we will do. No matter what we do, if we believe in Christ, every single sin is covered.

100%
